Did the Patriots lose or did the Giants win the game? I will give credit where credit is due. The Giants definitely won the Super Bowl because they made the stops when they needed it most and had the late 4th quarter drive to win the game. The best part about their win is that they left Tom Brady and the Patriots less then one minute to score a touchdown. Number one goal when playing the Patriots is to keep them off the field as much as possible and not to allow ample amount of time to score. I have only seen a few teams score that quickly at the end of the game and had more to do with the defense making a mistake. This Giants defense does not make many mistakes on defensive side of the ball.
Eli Manning has now put himself in the talk with the other great QB’s in the league. We all knew that Eli was good, but now that he has two Super Bowl rings he is among the great. He now surpasses his brother Peyton, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers because he has two rings and they only have one. He is also still very young for a QB and has many years left to maybe add another ring or two before he retires and is inducted into the hall of fame.
Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks also had big games and deserve their recognition for their big plays. Manningham had the biggest catch of the night down the sideline and somehow kept his feet in before going out of bounds. Without that catch who knows what the end of the game would entail. This is the second time the Giants have made a huge play when they needed it in the Super Bowl against the Patriots.
I know Bradshaw was getting negative attention for scoring that touchdown at the end, but not many people understand the momentum that actually carried him across the goal line.He was going too fast and too hard to stop because nobody touched him. It is like getting a full size truck going as fast as it can and then trying to stop it. Even if he did not fall into the endzone, the Patriots linebackers were going to tackle him so that he scores a TD to preserve time on the clock. I have to give the Patriots credit for actually allowing the Giants to score, but they should have done it a play or two earlier so that they would have had more time and possibly more timeouts.
Overall the Giants won the Super Bowl while the Patriots came up short. Now every team except the Giants can focus on how to beat them this next year. It all starts with Free Agency and the Draft. Multiple teams have two first round picks including the Patriots and the Bengals who were playoff teams. I have a feeling with those picks the Patriots will be back and better then they were this year if they get two players that can play early. Better luck next year as we always say.
